Biography
Marcin Gesla - Bass, began his musical education in Bydgoszcz, Poland, where he completed his Master degree in vocal studies in 2006. That same year he was awarded a scholarship to attend the Royal Academy of Music in London where he graduated in 2009 with Distinction.
During his studies in London Marcin sang Barabashkin in Shostakovich's Paradise Moscow, Melibeo in Haydn's La Premiata Fedelta conducted by Trevor Pinnock and covered Antonio in The Marriage of Figaro conducted by Sir Colin Davis.
Prior to this, in Poland, he sang Mirko Zeta in The Merry Widow, Gremin in Eugene Onegin and King Rene in Tchaikovsky's Iolanta.
After graduating Marcin sang the dual roles of Doctor Grenvil and Baron Douphol (cover) in La Traviata in Schwerin in Germany.
In 2012 he took part in the British premiere of Lord Berners' opera Le Carrosse du Saint-Sacrement singing the role of Thomas d'Esquivel for Dorset Opera.
For Garsington Opera he has covered Il Commendatore (Don Giovanni) and Don Fernando in Fidelio and for Fulham Opera he performed Angelotti in Tosca and Betto in Gianni Schicchi, a role he repeated at Wexford Festival Opera. At Glyndebourne Festival he covered Hans Folz in Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.
Marcin has performed in multiple Polish operas, highlights of which include;łuba ZbigniewStraszny DwórandSkoby
Moniuszko, Stolnik and Dziemba in Halka and Bartłomiej in Verbum Nobile.
Last season Marcin sang Sparafucile in Rigoletto and Angelotti in Tosca for Opera Brava. He also sung Bonze in Madama Butterfly as part of the Christine Collins Young Artists Programme for Opera Holland Park and The King in Aida for Kentish Opera.
More recently he has sung Zuniga in Carmen for Lyric Opera in Dublin, Il Commendatore for Winslow Hall Opera, Colline in La Boheme for Swansea City Opera and Zuniga in Carmen for both OperaUpClose at the Soho Theatre and Opera Brava. He has also sung Osmin in The Abduction from the Seraglio for Popup Opera and Bartolo/Antonio in The Marriage of Figaro for Opera Vera.
One of his favourite roles is Sarastro in The Magic Flute, which he sang for The Beauforthuis Festvial in The Netherlands. His most frequently sung role is Colline in La Boheme which he has performed for Longborough Festival Opera, Opera North (cover), New London Opera Players and Gubbay Productions at the Royal Albert Hall (cover).
On concert platform Marcin is in demand for romantic oratorio and opera galas.
